Global merchandise trade is expected to grow by 2.7% in 2024, slightly
above the previous estimate of 2.6%, according to the World Trade Organization (WTO). In
2025, projected growth is 3.0%, although geopolitical tensions and
and economic uncertainty present significant risks. WTO Director-General
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant against
potential setbacks, particularly due to regional conflicts such as those in the Middle East, which
may have both economic and humanitarian repercussions.
At the regional level, South America is recovering in 2024 after a decline in 2023, with the United
States driving North American trade and Mexico standing out for its growth in
imports. Meanwhile, Europe anticipates a decrease in exports (-1.4%) and
imports (-2.3%) in 2024, affected by the economic contraction in Germany and
and challenges in the automotive and chemical sectors.
Likewise, Asia is leading export growth, with a 7.4% increase projected for
2024, driven by key economies such as China, Singapore, and South Korea. In Africa,
export growth has been revised downward to 1.1% in 2024 due to adjusted trade
statistics and weaker European import demand.
Let’s keep moving forward with the same energy and commitment that define our collaboration!
